The desire for children and fertility rates are falling, not just in France and other rich countries, but all over the world. This original book (which title could be translated as A world without children: The worst is happening… but the best may follow) takes us on a journey into the “childless world” that is looming.

David Duhamel, an economist and author of a series of podcasts on “a world without children”, offers a broad overview of the demographic situation and outlook. Without over-sophisticating his theories and typologies, the globe-trotting author describes, on the depopulation side, an enriched Asia that is having fewer children, with the decline in China and the ongoing extinctions in Japan and South Korea. On the issue of overpopulation, he shows the worrying situation in Africa, which, although it is beginning its demographic transition, is still affected by large numbers of young people who will need to be given jobs and
