From the infinitely small to the infinitely large, the range of our knowledge is constantly expanding. And yet, this race towards progress and wealth is all too often a matter of dubious motives and contradictory interests, which means that it is sometimes counter-productive. Indeed, according to Bernard Vaudour-Faguet, the Western style of development has never been so badly threatened by weaknesses; he goes on to criticize roundly the inconsistencies in the organizational model of the so-called developed countries and the harsh reality that confronts their populations.
How then can these shortcomings be remedied and patterns of behaviour changed in order to shape a better future?
The author argues that we need to shake off some of the rigidities in the French system, such as its bureaucratic, hierarchical and elitist features; there must be greater public participation so as to foster new positive forces.
