Following the first international conference on rare earth elements[1], which was held in Greece in September 2014, the Chinese proposed to the Greeks to establish a technical and scientific cooperation in this field and subsequently to exploit the latters’ existing reserves. But behind this interesting proposal for Greece is the question of strategic security of Europe that defined the REEs as critical materials for its very high technology industry.
From 4 to 7 September 2014, was therefore held in Milos, Greece, the first conference on European Rare Earth RESources (ERES), which was entitled « Development of a sustainable exploitation scheme for Europe?s rare earth ore deposits project ». The ERES conference is part of the EURARE Project, which is funded by the European Commission for the « Development of a sustainable exploitation scheme for Europe’s rare earth ore deposits ».
