Technological Innovation and Seniors
French society is aging. Some see this as a barrier in the spread of innovation and thus on the dynamism of consumption. Surveys by CREDOC attenuate these alarmist forecasts. Of course, seniors (people 50 and over) have fewer technological devices than the rest of the population, but they are catching up. They are even especially open to innovation when it brings an environmental or health benefit. Information technology is supposed to be one of the rare fields in which seniors do not wish to become more heavily involved for the moment. Having said that, if everyone is interested in technological innovation, the present context of economic crisis and the social climate are not favourable. Seniors in particular are increasingly worried and especially their uncertainty about their pension income which will eventually slow their purchases of technological products.
