Donald Trump’s policy, particularly spectacular in the field of international diplomacy (Russia/Ukraine, Gaza Strip, Iran, Venezuela etc.), is also upending forms of cooperation that are perhaps not front and centre in international relations but have a major impact on a large part of humanity. This is the case with scientific research and the multilateral management of issues of planetary significance.

By cutting US funding or participation from a large number of international bodies working on climate change, development aid, world health, biodiversity etc., President Trump is drastically disrupting the organization of research in these areas and undermining (if not, indeed, obstructing) the collection and storage of essential data. What might the consequences be for the management of these issues, which, as many see it, concern the common good of humanity? Pierre Papon delves into this question here, explaining in detail Trumpist endeavours to undo decades of progress and cooperation on health issues, environmental research, sustainable development etc.
