They must help to prevent and reduce poverty, vulnerability and social exclusion. According to ILO guidelines, these guarantees should be provided to all inhabitants and children, be defined by national legislation and regulations, and be subject to existing international obligations.<\/h6>\n\n\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"gs-container in-content-also\">\n  <div class=\"gs-row u-flex u-align-items-start\">\n    <div class=\"gs-flush-column @lg:-push-1 @lg:gs-column-7 @wd:gs-column-6 @wd:gs-push-2\">\n      <h2>Social foundations for global companies, by global companies<\/h2>\n<p>The idea of a social protection floor has prompted multinational companies to become more involved in social protection. These large economic entities, operating in several countries, often on several continents, are familiar with local social protection needs and systems. These companies usually cover their employees in one of two ways:<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Local employees are covered by the local social protection system, with its highs in rich countries and lows in poor countries.<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Expatriates benefit from special schemes that allow them to be covered under more generous terms and conditions, often even more generous than those applied in the countries to which they are expatriated.<\/p>\n<p>Spurred on by the ILO initiative, global companies have committed to providing a resolutely international foundation for their employees, whether or not they work in a country with a high level of social protection. In 2015, the ILO and L\u2019Or\u00e9al launched <a href=\"https:\/\/www.social-protection.org\/gimi\/gess\/ShowProject.action?id=3030\"><em>The Global Business Network for Social Protection Floors<\/em><\/a>. The aim is not to implement the same social protection for the employees of all the companies involved, but to identify and encourage good practice by global companies in this area. A number of them have already got involved, including \u2014\u00a0in addition to L\u2019Or\u00e9al and its pioneering <a href=\"https:\/\/www.loreal.com\/en\/group\/about-loreal\/our-purpose\/social-innovation\/\"><em>Share and Care<\/em><\/a> programme\u00a0\u2014 Danone, Nestl\u00e9, Legrand, Randstad, Solvay and Swiss Life. French global companies are particularly active, with a specific network, the <a href=\"https:\/\/en3s.fr\/international\/organisation-internationale-du-travail\/\">Plateforme francophone des entreprises pour les socles de protection sociale<\/a>. The members of this platform currently include Bollor\u00e9, Bouygues, Cr\u00e9dit Agricole, Engie, Kering, Legrand, L\u2019Or\u00e9al, Sanofi, LVMH, Saint-Gobain, Soci\u00e9t\u00e9 G\u00e9n\u00e9rale, Sodexo and Vinci. A minimum set of benefits \u2014\u00a0including wage replacement rates in the event of maternity or sickness absence, benefits to pay for childcare, a certain amount of paid leave for parents, etc.\u00a0\u2014 is drawn up in each company, valid internationally. This base is adapted locally, as it complements what is already in place. Sometimes, depending on the country, the company provides all the cover and benefits \u2014 in countries with weak social protection. In countries with a high level of social protection, the company may provide only a marginal supplement.<\/p>\n<p>These initiatives strengthen the identity and integration of employees in their company, wherever they may be. They make a tangible contribution to the implementation of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) policy, particularly with regard to the S (social) aspect of the three ESG dimensions (environment, social, governance). These initiatives have an impact not only on the employees of these companies, but also on their local subcontractors and their entire national environment.<\/p>\n<p>The benefits for the company can be measured in four ways:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>attracting and retaining staff;<\/li>\n<li>the good health and well-being of employees, who are more productive;<\/li>\n<li>improving the company\u2019s image and disseminating cohesive values internally;<\/li>\n<li>external image feedback, particularly in relation to social rating issues.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Since these companies may have several hundred national public authorities are invited to do.
