Futuribles joined in with this exercise, using short fictions that presented various possible future scenarios in the space field \u2013 not all of them with the same consequences at the ethical level \u2013 to stimulate thinking. Daniel Kaplan, who took part in this exercise, here outlines the various fictions proposed: \u2018Mars at all costs\u2019, \u2018The Guardians of Space\u2019, \u2018Earthmen first\u2019 and \u2018Launchpad for the Ark Starship\u2019. He also shows what is to be gained from the use of fiction to stimulate debate on the ethics of space conquest and exploration.
