In this book, Nick Bostrom plunges us into a radical utopia, a world where all tasks would be taken over by artificial intelligence (AI) and its robotic agents. In so doing, he extends the thinking behind Superintelligence<\/em>.[1]<\/a><\/sup>. Whereas the first book dealt primarily with the existential risks associated with the development of technologies that would surpass human capacities for intelligence, and argued in favour of aligning the objectives of AI with human values, this one assumes that humanity has survived and addresses the question of a post-superintelligence society.<\/h6>

It is a systematic exploration of the economic, social, philosophical and moral consequences of this radical hypothesis. It is necessarily abundant, with a multiplication of angles of attack, and its ambition goes far beyond an exercise of the type \u201cwhat if…\u201d, familiar to futurists. The tone is set in the short preface, in a poetic paragraph that evokes the metamorphosis of a familiar landscape, transfigured by the snow that covers it on a winter\u2019s morning and inspires the desire to discover its mysteries.<\/p>\n

The story follows several intertwined paths. The first of these focuses on the central theme: what to do when there\u2019s nothing to do? Here, the reflections are developed in the interventions of the author, a university lecturer, who shares his knowledge and analyses in the utopian context of the initial hypothesis. This scientific and rational approach is supported by well-documented boxes that summarise the state of the art or explain the concepts he uses.<\/p>\n\n <\/div>\n

The second path takes the form of conversations between the author and a group of his students \u2014 Tessius the pragmatic philosopher, Firafax the idealist, and Kelvin the man of rigour and scientific expertise.<\/p>\n

The third path is a fable that traces the saga of Feodor the fox, who symbolises intelligence, cunning and strategic thinking, in the company of Pignolius, the pig <\/strong>whose wisdom is renowned but whose ideal of life is based more on satisfying basic needs such as eating and sleeping, or desires such as enjoying the pleasures of the senses. The two companions embark on a quest that is first and foremost that of the fox: what to do to make the world a better place; how to lead a life worth living? The adventure takes place in a hostile forest and involves many twists and turns, including an attack on one of their camps by wolves who kill one of their friends and ruin the food crops. This epic tale illustrates the gap between philosophical perspectives and technical discussions, exploring the ethical aspects and encouraging us to reflect on concrete examples. And through the subterfuge of delivering this epic through the letters that Feodor the fox addresses to an old uncle, who is certainly very wise but who remains silent, the author invites us to consider the ethical questions and moral dilemmas present in this metaphor.<\/p>\n
