Is the German Population in Unstoppable Decline?

The population of Germany had reached 82 million in 1998. It then fell until 2011, when it stood at 80.4 million. It has since increased, reaching 81.16 million on 1 January 2015. Germany’s demographic decline has been slowed by increased immigration. But that contribution seems unlikely to reverse a trend towards decline which the German statistical institute (Destatis) regards as unstoppable.
